Mughal Tahkhana |
Mughal Tahkhana is a 3 storied royal palace. Tahkhana is a Persian word, literally meaning cold building or palace. Located on the west bank of a large pond in Pirojpur area of Shahabazpur Union of Shibganj Upazila, the building is traditionally known as Tahkhana. Its distance from Chapainawabganj is about 35 km.
Mughal Tahkhana |
Ancient architecture like Gaur cannot be seen
anywhere else except Tahkhana. It is located on the banks of a lake called
Dafe-ul-Bala. It has one floor underground and the other two floors above. The
3rd floor has almost disappeared.
The building is mainly made of brick. However, black
stone has been used for the door frames and wooden beams for the flat roof.
From the west the building appears single storey, but from the east it reveals
a two storey structure, with ground floor rooms extending to the east and
archways rising directly from the cistern. Its roof and walls are made of cast
concrete.
Both the mosque and the Tahkhana are located next to a reservoir called 'Dafe-ul-Balah'. Two barred staircases
extend down to the water bottom of the reservoir. And Tahkhana 30 to 35 m north is the tomb of Shah Neyamtullat Ullah Wali.
The tomb of Shah Neemat Ullah Wali is considered to be the earliest tomb
architecture of the Mughal era. It is a listed archaeological site of
Bangladesh Directorate of Antiquities.
Within the complex of Tahakhana Maza are many more unnamed tombs. Whose identity is not yet known. However, they are believed to be Khadem or companions of Hazrat Shah Syed Niamatullah.
