Description:

First let us know about the name and architectural period of the mosque. As the mosque is located in Kusumba village, it is named Kusumba Shahi Masjid after this village. Another name for the locals is Kalapahar.

According to historians, the Kusumba Mosque is a unique example of Muslim architecture. As far as is known, the mosque was built by a Muslim convert named Sabar Khan or Sulayman during the reign of Ghiyasuddin Bahadur Shah, the last ruler of the Shur dynasty of Afghani rule in 966 Hijri or 1558 to 1569 AD. The date of construction of the mosque is written on the plaque placed at the entrance of the mosque.

It is known that a farmer found the stone in his land while ploughing. It was probably lifted from the ground by his efforts and placed by the roadside. On this stone is written in Arabic in Togra script, "Al Maleku Ma Humam Mokararaama Abul Mozaffar Hussain Shah Bin Syed Asraf Al Hussain". Meaning he is the ruler who is the mighty and respected Abul Mozafar Hossain Shah son of Syed Ashraf Al Hussain. From this it can be understood that the Prastur Khand is dedicated to Hussain Shah's memory.

Adjacent to the mosque, there is a huge pond measuring 77 bighas on the north-south side. From the open courtyard adjacent to the mosque, a stone staircase leads down to the water of the lake. The Dighi is about 1200 feet long and about 900 feet wide. This dighi was built to meet the needs of villagers and worshipers for drinking water, bathing and ablution. Later in 2017, construction of flower garden and lighting work was done on the banks of Dighi located around the mosque and on the east side. The historic Kusamba Mosque was built on the banks of this lake.
